17U Girls AAA Tri-County Rangers Win Provincials
The Tri-County 17U AAA Rangers girls faced adversity on Sunday August 31st but came through it with flying colours. Facing their nemesis Oxford, the Rangers went into game play Sunday in the championship knowing they had to beat the team from Cumberland County twice to win the Baseball Nova Scotia 17U AAA girls provincial title on their home field at the Windsor Junction Community Centre. The Rangers had lost on Saturday afternoon to Oxford 5-3. Earlier in the weekend, Tri-County trumped Hammonds Plains 11-1 and had to get another win Saturday night against Yarmouth to advance.
Yarmouth led 3-2 into the Rangers final at bat when Tri-County came through with two runs for the 4-3 victory. The win setup the double knockout finish for the championship where Oxford needed just one win and the Rangers two. Tri-County’s bats and pitching were up for the assignment on Sunday. In the first game they doubled Oxford 10-5, and in the championship they knew what they had to do and their offence exploded for the 12-4 victory. Many of the Rangers have come up through the LWF Baseball Association.
