What programs are available for younger kids from 4 to 7 years old?
2026 NOVICE PROGRAM:
This Division is mostly for 4 and 5 yr olds but 3 yr olds can join in with parents agreeing that one of them will attend each session with their player. This is an introduction to baseball but also an introduction to outdoor sports and learning to be with others in group settings, we use all safety gear (foam rubber bats, whiffle balls etc) and we supply baseball jerseys and hats, all the kids need are cheaper type baseball gloves.
Sessions will be every Sunday from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the George P Vanier school fields starting the 2nd Sunday in June and running until end of August.
2026 RALLY CAP PROGRAM:
This Division and program is sponsored by the Toronto Blue Jays and is primarily for 6 & 7 yr olds, it also is still and intro to baseball but is more advanced than the Novice program. We still start out with all safety gear (foam rubber bats and whiffle balls but will advance thru the season to real metal bats with soft "gym" balls. We also begin with tee ball hitting but advance quickly to parent pitching, Barry will return after a year off to run these sessions.
Players get baseball jerseys and hats and only need to bring their baseball gloves, all other gear is supplied. Sessions will run every Sunday from 6:00 to 7:15 pm starting on the 2nd Sunday of June and running until the end of August on the George P Vanier ball fields.
2026 9U ROOKIE PROGRAM
This age group is primarily for 8/9 yr olds but first time playing 10 yr olds and some 7 yr olds who have previously been in Rally Cap/Novice may move up as well. Reg fee in this age group is $225.00 and we supply full uniforms and hats plus gear bags which include bats, balls etc. Players must provide their own baseball gloves, batting helmets and protective cups (plastic or rubber cleats are allowed). Teams average two games and one practice per week and game nights change from week to week though a full schedule is provided at the beginning of the year, we play primarily on the WJCC Small field but there are some games at Waverley Legion field, High Road and Grand Lake fields.
Note, this year we are going back to using the pitching machine as the pitcher in games for the full games and full season.
Seasons begin in May when fields are dry enough to practice and run into early September. Watch for info on indoor sessions in late April or May.
2026 GIRLS AT BAT PROGRAM:
Girls at Bat is a Blue Jays sponsored program to do an introduction to baseball for girls aged 6 to 12 who would like to experience baseball. Depending on our indoor booking requests we will run anywhere from 10-16 sessions indoors during the months of April/May at the curling rink side of the Sackville Sports Stadium once the ice goes out, we are hoping to hear back from the HRM within the next few weeks. The program usually is twice a week with one session on a weeknight and the other on a week-end morning, cost to register is $50.00. We supply all the gear required with the exception that we have a limited supply of baseball gloves so if you have one please bring it.
For those that then choose to play baseball or softball you can register with us for the Summer season, for further info please email Barry at lwfbaseball@hotmail.com
